The Journey
On July 17, 2017 sitting in our living room on the couch, watching some random TV show it hit her (my amazing wife). She looked over at me and said, “I’m over it”. The it she was talking about was the usual elephant in the room at the end of each month. That thing was paying the bills, in particular the mortgage on our two master bedroom condo in the beautiful rolling hills of Tierrasanta, California, with the killer view and the amazing feeling of being “home”, which as I sit here in my true “home” really was just a box with windows and was a place where we laid our head at night and tried to live our lives during the day. That night though really brought it home how much we were not living for us but living for that four walled boxes with the killer view. I will forever remember the look on her face as she stated, “I’m done”, and then exclaimed you know we have options. Me being the supposed clear thinker had forgotten that we had a beautiful (still is) still brand new 5th wheel, that was sitting in a dusty storage lot not being used as much as I wanted it to be. We had like everyone else living this lifestyle gave ourselves a time frame that we would launch on our newfound full-time freedom journey. Well at this point it was sounding more and more like we were going to drastically speed up that full-time time frame. That brand new 5th wheel sitting in the dusty lot that had just quickly became the focal point of this discussion as i had to get some clarity as to what she was implying, so I asked her. Are you saying let’s move into the 5th wheel? without missing a beat she said yes! as a matter of fact. So as not to kill the current #unfreakingbelivable mood, I excused myself to go to the bathroom where I broke into the best Carlton dance I have ever done, followed by a series of fist pumps. That was the moment when this full-time journey truly started, and we are so grateful it did, because it has truly changed our life for the better without a doubt.
Where do we go from here?
The future really holds no bounds for us. Currently we are Camp Hosting in Southern California at Santee Lakes RV Campground. We have been here for 12 months and will continue to camp host here for the foreseeable further due to an opportunity that has been presented to us. This is one of those out the normal situations that seem to happen more in this full-time lifestyle than in regular sticks and bricks living. As much as i would prefer to be on the road i will let this situation play itself out and see where it takes us. We still get out and travel just not at the rate we may want to. With this gig we are on 6 months then we can take as much time off as we would like until we choose to comeback and resume it. So in the grand scheme of things its really not that bad. We still get to go and explore and camp and site see just on a little more regulated schedule which at this time we can accept.
